Victor Moses rested as Chelsea beats Newcastle in FA cup

Super Eagle Victor Moses was rested all through as Chelsea returned to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Newcastle in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Marcos Alonso opened up the Newcastle defence with a sublime throughball to set up Michy Batshuayi who was left with a simple task of turning his strike into an empty net after 31 minutes of play.

The Belgian doubled his side’s advantage on the brink of half time, taking a pass from Eden Hazard to strike at goal with Jamaal Lascelles’s block not able to prevent the ball from trickling over the line.

Alonso curled in a stunning freekick from some distance 18 minutes from time with Karl Darlow denying Batshuayi a hattrick on the stroke of full time as Chelsea marched into the next round of the competition.

It would have been Moses’s 23rd appearance for the Blues in all competitions if he had featured against the Magpies.
