On Tueday, an alleged female suicide bomber have been arrested by the Borno state police close to an IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) camp.
According to statement made by Edet Okon, the Public Relations Officer of the Borno state Police Command, the alleged bomber was sighted behind the Bakassi IDPs camp at about 6:50pm on Monday.
“At about 6:50 pm, a female suicide bomber was sighted behind Bakassi IDPs camp in Maiduguri Metropolis.”
“On sighting the bomber, conventional policemen alongside their EOD counterparts swung into action and cordoned off the area to prevent escape of the bomber into the city. As a result, the suspect, one Zara Idriss was rendered safe, arrested and is now held in custody” he disclosed.
Due to the arrest, the IDPs camp and neighboring community had been in upset. The Police command had secured the arena and the commissioner of police has made public announcement that there was no need for panic and that everyone could go about their normal activities without fear.
He also advised that they should all take precautions while they carry out their daily norms and report any suspicious movement in the environment. He said that the Borno state police are at alert and ready to fight crime or any act of terrorism.
